The Home Schooling Curriculum Teaching Your Child At Home

Home schooling is preferred by some parents. Some parents want to make sure that their child is getting all the schooling needed even though he is staying and learning at home instead of learning inside the classroom. Home schooling is preferred by some parents. Some parents want to make sure that their child is getting all the schooling needed even though he is staying and learning at home instead of learning inside the classroom. They believe that they are able to control the curriculum better. Moreover, they want to impart their own values that are necessary in molding a child. They are also focused on teaching deeper subjects that they believe are significant to his learning. There is also a belief that they can slow down when the child is having difficulty and spend more time on these subjects. In this way, the child has a better chance of learning the harder lessons.

You can be there to guide your child in some topics and issues that could be easily misinterpreted when explained in school by teachers or other classmates. In terms of social interactions, home schooling has developed good benefits. Thoughtful parents nowadays have considered home schooling as a solution to their child’s learning needs. The number of children learning at home is continually increasing. But apart from the benefits, there are also drawbacks.

Let us first discuss the benefits that one can get from home schooling. First and foremost is control, the control on what to learn, what to teach and what to encourage in your child’s mind. Some parents say that some schools, private or public, have a lack of input and control that a parent has over his or her child’s educational needs. Some parents think that they can provide a better standard and quality of education through home schooling. They can teach their children on the subjects and areas which they feel are appropriate for their children to learn. These parents feel there is a lack of quality education in school and that there are many factors that could be the cause of this. These factors could be the curriculum, the teaching staff, as well as the teaching methods.

Moreover, they are afraid that their child is exposed to a wide range of children his own age but with different backgrounds and upbringings. They are afraid that classmates might influence their children have parents who do not hold the same values. In addition, home schooling is less expensive than enrolling your children in private schools which require high tuition fees. Every year tuition fees get higher and these expenses will only increase. For these reasons, some families prefer home schooling rather than enrolling in private schools. They believe that home schooling creates more bonding interactions between the parents and their children. With this, the child may never feel neglected and abandoned in any way.

Some drawbacks to home schooling is that some children can find it quite isolating, so it is important to include some form of socializing for your child. Be it after school clubs or sports. Also, as a parent you will have to be disciplined to ensure your child receives the education they deserve and do not fall behind in any of the curriculum subjects. There will be exams to sit and papers to mark, which have to be submitted for review.
If conducted in a thorough and organized fashion, home schooling can be beneficial for both parent and child.

WARNING! Lack of socialization causes home schooled children have two heads?....

Home-educated children generally socialize with other children the same way that school children do: outside of school, via personal visits and through sports teams, clubs, and religious groups etc.

Rubbish I hear you say?  I couldn’t agree more.  I find it quite amusing that “scholars” and the media treat the home schooled child and parent this way.  The number one argument against homeschooling is the buzz word of “socialization” in other words the lack of social interaction with others through schooling.

This is easily avoided by joining numerous organizations, including, independent study programs and specialized enrichment groups for physical education, art, music, and debate. Most are also active in community groups by learning through doing. Home-educated children generally socialize with other children the same way that school children do: outside of school, via personal visits and through sports teams, clubs, and religious groups etc.

Most home education parents have often argued that their alternative actually enhances the student's “socialization”. They argue that the school years are the only time in a person's life that he or she will be artificially segregated into chronologically-determined groups. They say that home educated children have a more normal interaction with people of all ages. This will result in more influence on the child from adults, and less from other children, leading to more mature young citizens while still keeping friends and interacting with children of the same age.

In 1999 a statement from the National Education Association that, "home schooling cannot provide the student with a comprehensive education experience”.  It is funny then that earlier this month shows home-schooled students are actually more socially and academically advanced than their peers.  Patrick Basham from Cato Institute and author of the study says  one of the greatest quotes ever (and relates to my confronting headline) “aren't surprising in intellectual terms, but it does turn the major anecdotal opposition to home schooling - that it produces social retards - on its head."  "Almost one quarter of home-schooled students perform one or more grades above their age level peers in public and private schools," said Basham. Indeed, the study cited findings that by Grade 8, the average home-schooled student performs four grade levels above the national average.

According to the study's findings, the typical home-schooled child is more mature, friendly, happy, thoughtful, competent, and better socialized than students in public or private schools and less peer dependent and exhibit "significantly higher" self-esteem, according to the study.

Where is this socialization the government school crowd always promotes as a reason for not home schooling?   The latest blurb is that home schooled kids, even though possibly better educated, just can't be socialized in a home school setting.  Once again the difference between theory and practice is showing just the opposite.  Socially, home schoolers socialize in soccer comps, football comps, special events, ski trips, astronomy clubs, church groups, on the internet etc. So please, help me find this lack of socialization among home schoolers so we can stamp it out and stop depriving them of this most important asset?. What do you think?

Who Said Homeschool Is For Kids Only? It's For Highschools Too!

They say homeschooling is only for the younger kids in the elementary or lower levels but highschool homeschooling is also a very popular educational choice. Only this time, the decisions are most probably through the convincing power of the students themselves.

Most that do homeschooling are those teenagers who cannot take the pressures at school, especially those of peer pressure and bullying. Others cannot catch up with the lessons and curriculum programs of regular schools or would like to start early in life through training, internship and community volunteering jobs that would help them be knowledgeable and prepared for the struggle outside the four walls of their school.

This is why choosing the suitable curriculum for teenagers or highschool is very important. There are a lot of materials or support they can get especially on the Internet. They can talk to other homeschoolers in established groups through message boards, forums and chats to build a network. Homeschooling sites are also all over the net; they can browse through these sites, find an established support group in their area, get some catalogs and enroll in a curriculum or they can create their own study program.

This is good for those students who have very supportive and open-minded parents. But in case there are none and the student is left to carry out his curriculum by himself, homeschooling helps students to stand up and depend on themselves because one thing that is developed within is good independent study skills and more as they engage in continuous studying on their own.

In choosing the homeschool curricula, it is best if teenagers are present and take an active part in deciding which curricula to choose that would best apply to their learning styles and abilities. Better for teenagers is to create their own course of study. In this way, students will have good choices of activities which develop every aspect of their personality instead of just choosing a fixed program. Anyway, there are different approaches to choose from and combine that would help in the holistic development of the student.

For highschool, homeschooling can help them start in life, make a step forward through practical trainings and internship programs depending on the specialization they like to pursue. Computer based jobs like developing software, designing a web, database administration, graphics and multimedia designs, repairs and troubleshooting are very popular among the choices of training and specialization. These are the jobs that most students who hate school like the most.

So, why force them in fixed school curricula when they can actually be successful in what they want and might do best in the future.

Setting Up your Projector for your Home Cinema

 projector
In order to capture the greatest cinema experience, you
should give some thought as to where you shall place the
projector.

There are basically three ways that you can set up your
projector. They are: table top, ceiling mounted or wall
mounted.

Make sure that when you buy your projector that it is able
to be mounted as you want.

Table top - Does the projector match the decor? Is the
noise that the projector makes low enough? Do you think
that the projector will be suitable for the screen size?

Ceiling mount - You must first make sure the mount fits the
type of ceiling you have - vaulted or flat. Is it fairly
easy to install the cables and the power that is required?

Do you need to have a mount with a quick release? Are you
able to move the mount in various positions? Mounts will
vary in drop height from the base. This may give you some
idea as to how low from the ceiling your projector must be.

Wall mount - This can be similar to a ceiling mount or you
can have a special AV rack.

These are some things to consider when you are wall
mounting:

- Can the mount support the projectors weight?

- Is it able to be adjusted for sideways and height

movement?

- Will the mount fit in with the decor of the room?

- Will the location you have chosen for the projector
produce the desired screen size?

When building your home cinema, positioning the projector
is critical in order to you to have a wonderful experience.

The Makings of a Home Cinema

You home cinema should combine the features of a video and
an audio system in order to replicate an actual movie
theater in your own home. The home cinema is becoming
increasingly popular today.

You classic home cinemas should consist of a large,
high-class HDTV - capable television. You may rather have a
video projector.

The quality audio system is achieved with a high fidelity
surround sound system. It contains at least 4 speakers as
well as a subwoofer in order to have the proper sound
effects.

Your home cinema consists of a proper arrangement of a TV,
DVD, VCR and a set of speakers. The home cinema is supposed
to mimic the natural movie house situation.

There are all types of home cinemas on the market today
which differ in size, capacity and, of course, price. You
should do a thorough assessment first and then purchase
your home cinema system.

The sky can very well be the limit as far as home cinemas
go, so make sure that you stick to your budget.

You can get a great deal of information about home cinemas
on the Internet. This Information Highway will get you full
information regarding different models, different makes,
features of different models and much more.

Before actually purchasing a home cinema, you should know
about the different components that you are going to need
for your home cinemas such as a TV, screen, receivers,
amplifier, speakers and more.

There is a great deal to consider when you are thinking
about constructing a home cinema within your house. The
best advice to follow is -Think before you leap!

What is a Home Cinema Composed of?

Your home cinema is basically composed of receivers, a
screen, speakers and amplifiers. We will look at each
component in depth.

Receivers - This is the very heart of your home cinema
because all of the other parts are connected or wired to
it. The receiver works as your controller.

If you select a low-quality receiver, this can jeopardize
the pleasure of your home cinema system. The receiver
should hold digital or optical audio ports and should even
be able to adapt to the older style cabling.

The price of your receiver will depend upon its amplifier
supremacy as well as its detailed feature set. You want to
make sure to always buy a good quality receiver. This will
ensure that you have a wonderful home cinema experience.

Screen - Another vital component of a home cinema system is
the screen. There are basically four types of screens:
permanent, portable, manual pull down and electric. Each
screen has its good and bad points.

Speakers - The speakers for your home cinema convert
electric signals into sound. You will be able to reproduce
quality audio by having a hi-fi surround system.

Amplifiers - Another way to look at your amplifiers is by
saying they are the minds of the home cinema.

Most amplifiers can be distinguished by several
characteristics such as gain, slew rate, settling time and
aberrations, output dynamic range, bandwidth and rise time,
noise and efficiency and linearity.

There are a lot of different model to choose from so be
careful when you make your selection.

These are the basic components that you will need to have
when setting up your home cinema.

The Right Home Business Model

There are more business models to choose from today
than ever before. That is because there are no so many
different types of businesses.

You can start a full time, part time, at home or
totally mobile, online or brick and mortar in a
commercial location.

But each business requires the right kind of business
model, including the home business.

The key is to choose the business model that fits into
your plans for your business.

The right home business model will ensure that you
spend the right amount of hours each week, that you
take the right level of risks, that you are practical
in terms of your finances and that you gain the kind
of satisfaction and success that you can dream of.

First decision you have to make is how much time you
want to devote to your business. Will you decide to go
with a full time business model which means leaving
behind whatever it is you are currently doing and
devoting all your time to your new business venture?

A home business has many upsides to it. There are
usually less risks and a lower start-up cost than a
brick and mortar business, simply because you do not
have the expense of real estate, staff, etc.

Home businesses are easily scaleable. You can make
them as big or small as you need them to be and you
will have virtually no commute. You can outsource to
keep things simple. You can hire companies to do your
public relations, warehousing, shipping and even
manufacturing.
